Extensive records on the operation of the resort include deeds and property records; guest registers; employee records, reports, and correspondence; financial records including Ledger E with detailed entries on expenses incurred for construction, boats, farm operations, employees, food supplies, equipment, and other operations, 1882-1951, and inventories, 1890-1938; records from day-to-day operations of the Mountain House such as laundry, staging (livery), telephone, purchasing department, dining room, Picnic Lodge, and rooms; minutes, reports, and other records of the corporate body, Smiley Brothers, Inc.; and business correspondence of Albert K. and Alfred H. Smiley, their half-brother Daniel Smiley (1855-1930), and other family members involved in the business, 1869-present, with some family and personal information included; many of the earlier letters offer a detailed picture of life at Mohonk.
